What is Pilates?

Pilates is a series of stretching and strengthening exercises designed to condition your body's core strength,  improve posture and prevent back pain and injury.

Who benefits from Pilates?

Men and women of all ages can benefit from Pilates. You don't have to be fit to do Pilates, it is not a form of aerobic exercise. Pilates is effective exercise for people who have never exercised but wish to improve posture, body shape or reduce back pain.

Pilates is also used extensively by elite athletes to prevent injury or enhance performance in sport.

Clinical approach to Pilates

Some Pilates classes can seem similar to a body conditioning class, particularly if performed in a big class.

The Pilates approach taken by Stephanie James and Katherine Brown ensures that the exercises are tailored to benefit you by taking into account flexibility and previous or current injuries. This is key to alleviating and preventing potential injuries. We are both Stott Pilates trained with several years experience teaching:

Pilates Classes

Group classes:

Group classes are held at City Temple, Holborn Viaduct, London EC1. There are no more than 10 people per class to ensure everybody is properly supervised (generally 6-8 people attend each course). They are held on a 6 week course basis. If you are a beginner, you must start at the beginning of the course. Intermediates can join during a course if there is room in the class.

Current courses:

Beginners: No date set but will be a Tuesday 7.05pm). Contact by email to go on the list. Courses run according to demand

Intermediate:  12 Apr- 31 May (1pm or 6pm).  These courses run continuously

Cost:

Each beginners course costs £70 and intermediates cost £69. This is non refundable unless we find a replacement. Refunds cannot be given if you are unable to attend some of the classes during a course.

One to One

For people who require close supervision who may have an injury history or wish to have individual tuition, this is available at Posture Dynamics, Victoria SW1 on Mondays and Fridays.
